The Educational Institute of the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLEI) is the global leader in the delivery of hospitality education, training and professional certification, serving educational and industry needs worldwide. Accepted across the world as a benchmark qualification for management in the hospitality industry, holders of the AHLEI Diploma are amongst the most sought after employees.

The global possibilities in employment and career development for well-qualified and highly motivated individuals are considerable. For students who wish to study continue with Bachelor’s level, AHLEI Diploma opens doors to colleges and universities in the USA, UK and elsewhere with one or two further years of study (depending on a country’s educational system).

Length of course

The AHLEI Hospitality Management Program is an intensive management course studied over 12 months. Subject to satisfactory completion of the Program, students without suitable previous employment experience in the hospitality industry may opt for 6 month internship in a leading hospitality company in Bahrain or elsewhere.


Course entry

To qualify for entry to the AHLEI Diploma you should be a high school graduate, at least 18 years of age, who can demonstrate certified competence in the English language. The AHLEI Diploma in Hospitality Management is modular in nature. This means that joining the Diploma is possible at a number of different points throughout the year – there are intakes nearly every month. Course content

Students study 12 AHLEI modules during the year. These modules cover all the main subject areas required for an international hospitality manager including:

  • Housekeeping Operations
  • Hospitality Facilities Management and Design
  • Supervisory Skills
  • Human Resource Management
  • Leadership and Management
  • Security and Loss Prevention

  • Food Production and Service

The internship

BIHR has extensive links with hospitality industry employers throughout Bahrain. Hotels placing our students include The Ritz Carlton; Crowne Plaza; Gulf Hotel; Sheraton Hotel; The Diplomat Radisson SAS; The Regency Inter-Continental; and Movenpick. Chain restaurants are well-represented in Bahrain and students interested in this field have undertaken internships at Chillis, Bennigans, Fuddruckers, McDonald’s, Domino’s Pizza, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), Pizza Hut, Costa, Starbucks and Baskin Robbins.


The qualification you receive

Students who successfully complete 12 designated modules receive 12 individual AHLEI certificates (one for each AHLEI subject), 1 AHLEI Diploma in Hospitality Management, transcripts of achievement and a Certificate of Attendance from BIHR.

Certificates earned for each AHLEI module are qualifications in their own right and fully transferable.

AUSTRALIAN RETAILERS ASSOCIATION, (ARA)

The Australian Retailers Association (ARA) is the peak body for retailers in Australia. Representing the industries views to media and government, the Association provides services and support to retailers, including small to medium enterprises and large national chains.

The ARA Retail Institute is the leading national body providing for the education, consulting and professional development needs of the Australian retail industry.

The qualification offered by ARA offers services in the following areas.

  • Specialization in retail operations with selective back office programs

The Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality (CTH)

The Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality is the UK’s leading specialist professional awarding body for qualifications in the growing hospitality and tourism sector.

It was established in 1982 as a specialist professional awarding body in the UK with a mission to focus on the training needs of new entrants to the hospitality, travel, tourism and culinary sectors. It now has a network of Approved Teaching Centres worldwide delivering sought after CTH qualifications to thousands of new students each year, with BIHR being one of the newly added centers for the GCC region. The Institute of Commercial Management (ICM) is a globally recognized and respected Foundation dedicated to supporting business, personal and professional development.
